It doesn't speak English
Your Jeli is born speaking Jeli and picks up English a word at a time, over weeks. There's no translate button. Working it out is the game.
How Jeli works →Wear OS & Android
A Jeli hatches from an egg, learns to talk over the following weeks, and gets attached to whoever looks after it. It lives on your watch and your phone. Walk, and it eats. Ignore it, and it notices.

How Jeli works →The watch turns walking into treats. 200 steps buys one, and it counts while the app is shut, so a walk to the shops is a meal.
Treats →Send your Jeli to someone else's phone. Your habitat sits empty until it comes home, and how they treated it shows on its record.
Visiting →All four fall in real time, whether the app is open or not.

Fluency is one dial, not four fixed voices. Your Jeli decides word by word whether it knows the English yet, so its speech shifts as it ages and as its hearts fill.
It is trying to say: “I'm hungry. Can I sleep soon?”
Hatchling
Mostly babble. Even its own language comes out mangled.
Your species is decided when your egg hatches, and it is yours for life.
Tap an egg.
Each one pays something different, and nothing pays everything. The ones your Jeli takes part in wait until it knows you.
Pays half hearts
An endless runner starring your own Jeli, drawn with your species, crest and colours. No cooldown, no streak to break.
Pays half hearts 2 hearts
First to five against your Jeli. It plays the other paddle for itself and it plays to win. Thrash it and it will go off the idea for a day.
Pays half hearts 1 heart
It hides under one of three cups, they shuffle, you point. However slow your phone is, it never ends up somewhere you could not follow.
Pays treats
The way to feed your Jeli when you have not been walking. A few hours between paid rounds.
Pays treats
Five rounds of wait, then go. Tap early and you lose the round, and the wait is never the same length twice.
Pays treats
It plays a phrase on four pads in its own voice and you play it back, one note longer every round.
Pays mood
Your Jeli stands on a plank and you tilt the phone to keep it there. The one that asks you to hold the handset rather than tap it.
Pays mood
Send it off on its own for a while. It comes back cheerful, and usually with something you cannot buy anywhere.
Pays a shorter wait
A rhythm game that hatches your egg early. Every attempt counts, and every attempt makes the timing harder for good.
It actually leaves. Your habitat sits empty until it comes back.
The two devices do different jobs, and they never lose each other's work.
Act on either while the other is in a drawer. Both count when they meet. How syncing works →

It won't understand a word you say for weeks. That's rather the idea.
